Little Sheep
Song for my sons
Once upon a pasture green
Where clover grows and bluebirds sing,
There romped and played a happy herd
Who spoke a single simple word.
“Baa,” they sang, “Baa,” they yammered.
So bold and busy was their clamor!
Song for my sons
Once upon a pasture green
Where clover grows and bluebirds sing,
There romped and played a happy herd
Who spoke a single simple word.
“Baa,” they sang, “Baa,” they yammered.
So bold and busy was their clamor!
All but one, a tiny sheep
Too afraid to make a peep.
He cowered low beneath the crowd
Who baa-ed and baa-ed so very loud.
All alone the wee sheep felt
Behind a tree he sadly knelt.
Too afraid to make a peep.
He cowered low beneath the crowd
Who baa-ed and baa-ed so very loud.
All alone the wee sheep felt
Behind a tree he sadly knelt.
He cried and wished his life would change,
To find his voice on the wide green range.
That very day prowled an angry beast,
A big brown wolf who cared the LEAST
For noisy sheep who’d boom and shout
He’d hush them down; he’d snuff them out!
The wolf jumped upon the blustering crowd
Who seemed oblivious, sure and proud.
He gnashed his teeth, so fiercely growling.
He pounced at them, so madly howling.
The sheep were scared of the sharp-toothed brute!
The fear they felt had made them mute!
Who seemed oblivious, sure and proud.
He gnashed his teeth, so fiercely growling.
He pounced at them, so madly howling.
The sheep were scared of the sharp-toothed brute!
The fear they felt had made them mute!
All but the smallest on that pasture side
Behind a tree he cried and cried. The wolf heard his whimpering sighs of woe
And decided to put on a terrible show.
He ambled over to the little lamb
Who suddenly knew, he was in a jam!
Behind a tree he cried and cried. The wolf heard his whimpering sighs of woe
And decided to put on a terrible show.
He ambled over to the little lamb
Who suddenly knew, he was in a jam!
Stuck between the wolf and tree,
There was nowhere for him to flee!
Wolf and sheep stood, eye to eye.
The longest moment did go by.
Then, something down in his belly arose…
(From where it came, nobody knows!)
There was nowhere for him to flee!
Wolf and sheep stood, eye to eye.
The longest moment did go by.
Then, something down in his belly arose…
(From where it came, nobody knows!)
But that wee little one afraid to peep,
Let rip a roar to make ewe weep!
He bellowed like a bear; brave and strong,
Or the sound of a train 100 feet long!
He yelled like a rocket blasting to space,
He rumbled like thunder all over the place!
Let rip a roar to make ewe weep!
He bellowed like a bear; brave and strong,
Or the sound of a train 100 feet long!
He yelled like a rocket blasting to space,
He rumbled like thunder all over the place!
The wolf ran away, shaking in fear!
He would never again travel near
This special place, this pasture green
Where clover grows and bluebirds sing,
There does dance and prance and shout and leap
The most happy little roaring sheep!
